Forgiveness
Forgiveness can change how a person relates to past harm without excusing it, restoring trust or requiring a relationship to continue.
Forgiveness may involve feeling less consumed by a hurt or treating oneself with less condemnation. People mean different things by the word, and no one owes it as proof of recovery, love or understanding. Forgiving, trusting and returning to a relationship are separate decisions. Harm still matters, responsibility remains, and boundaries can remain in place. If threats, control or violence continue, safety and independent support take priority over forgiveness or reconciliation; immediate danger or serious injury requires emergency help.
